TERRE HAUTE, Ind (WTHI) - The Indiana State Police post in Terre Haute said operation C.A.R.E. was a success.
The July Fourth holiday is one of the most traveled during the year, and police say many folks celebrate with alcohol.
This year, State police made five D.U.I. arrests. That number may seem low, but police say that does not mean that the program is not working.
"We feel like that our message is getting out there, any person under the influence of drugs or alcohol that you take off the highway.. Is a victory for everyone out here driving, " Sgt. Joe Watts of the Indiana State Police said.
Increased patrols in Terre Haute over the Fourth of July weekend issued 93 citations, 66 warnings, 11 of those were for seat belts and three were for child restraint violations.
