Local doctors offer help with vaccines

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - Local doctors and pharmacies have come together to help administer the H1N1 vaccines.

The Vigo County Health Department said, so far, about 20 medical providers have volunteered to give out the vaccine, once a large supply arrives.

Megan Bland with the Vigo County Health Department said a larger shipment of the vaccine has not arrived yet, but should come in the next few weeks.

"The vaccine itself is free, since it's a federal vaccine. If they do go to a doctor's office or to a pharmacy to receive it, they can be charged an administrative fee. They will not be charged that if they come to one of our clinics at the health department," Bland said.

Right now, the health department only has enough vaccines to treat those target groups including children.

In fact, Bland said, so far, more than 800 students in the Vigo County School Corporation have received the H1N1 vaccine. Those school clinics will continue until the vaccine supply runs out.
