Harry E. Frey, 94, of Terre Haute died Sunday, Nov. 30, 2008 in the Waters of Clinton. He was a retired radio and television newscaster. Harry was born Dec. 31, 1913 in Terre Haute to Harry Fred Frey and Maude Callie Isbell Frey.

Harry married Dorothy Castle in 1935 and she preceded him in death in 1990. He then married Ruby Stableton Frey who survives him. Harry is also survived by his sons, Eric Frey and his wife Denise of Terre Haute and Bruce Frey and his wife Pat of Vincennes; step-grandchildren, Brad Stott and his wife Jill, Brian Stott and his wife Debra, and Ben Stott and his wife Tricia; grandchildren, Jennifer Barry and her husband Kevin, Eric Frey II and his wife Cindy, Sarah Frey, Jonathan Frey and his wife Jaime, Amy McDonald, Bruce Frey II and his wife Scottie, and JoEllen Klatt and her husband Keith; and 24 great grandchildren.

Harry was a musician from 1932-1942, a radio announcer from 1942-1955, in furniture sales from 1955-1958, radio sales and news from 1958-1962, and then in television news until retirement. He also served as administrative assistant to Mayor Pete Chalos. Harry was a member of the Downtown Terre Haute Rotary Club where he was a Paul Harris Fellow, past president of the Lions Club, the Elks Club, and a Sagamore of the Wabash Valley. He was inducted into the Indiana Broadcasters Hall of Fame and the Wabash Valley Musicians Hall of Fame. Harry enjoyed antiques, sports cars, and Indy 500 badges and flasks.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 4, 2008 in Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25th Street, with Judge Phillip I. Adler officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2008. The family kindly requests that memorial contributions may be made to the Vigo County Historical Society, 1411 S. 6th Street, Terre Haute, IN 47802.
