TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - Visitation for Sgt. Dale Griffin took place Tuesday evening at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Terre Haute, as friends and family prepare to say goodbye to Sgt. Griffin.

The day began as the honor guard carried Sgt. Dale Griffin's flag drapped casket into the church Tuesday afternoon.

Flags surrounded the church to honor this fallen soldier. Hundreds of friends and family filed inside to pay tribute to Sgt. Griffin.

Gabe Euratte described Sgt. Griffin as his best friend. They met when they were 8 years old.

"I feel very lucky that we had 20 good years together, and as short as it was and I wanted it to continue for the rest of our lives, I'm blessed," Euratte said.

Bryan Warner met Sgt. Griffin in the Army, as they were both based in Fort Lewis, Wash. together for two years.

"I've been shocked at the outpouring of gratitude towards the Griffin's and Dale himself, it's been amazing," Warner said.
