TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - Vigo County Commissioner David Decker has resigned. Vigo County Clerk Pat Mansard received his letter of resignation Friday morning.

Decker is charged with distribution of a substance that has methamphetamine in it, which is a felony. Decker's plea agreement was entered into the federal court system Wednesday morning. The agreement called for Decker to resign from his position as commissioner.

The Vigo County Commissioners released this statement:

"The Vigo County Commissioners want to assure the public that the resignation of David Decker will not interrupt county business. By Indiana law, official action by the county commissioners requires the approval of two of the three commissioners therefore, Vigo County business will continue without interruption, pending David's replacement being elected. We also want to assure the public that David's alleged conduct did not occur during working hours and will not impact county government."

Decker's resignation letter will now go to Vigo County Democratic Party Chairman Joe Etling. The caucus to replace Decker will be May at 5:00 p.m. at the county council chambers.

Decker was in federal court Thursday morning for his initial hearing. No date has been set for his hearing on the plea agreement.
