TERRE HAUTE, Ind (WTHI) - Each month WTHI-TV and Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 157 recognize people making a difference here in the Wabash Valley.
December's award goes to Fred Davis and the Noon Optimist Club in Terre Haute.
"On behalf of the noon optimist club and myself, I accept this award. Thank you very much," Fred Davis said.
News 10 surprised the Noon Optimist Club during a meeting. When the men aren't at their day job they are out raising thousands of dollars during several campaigns.
One example is its annual Clothe A Child auction. The money raised goes to help the under privileged children of the Wabash Valley.
"It's not anything to be bragging about. It's just helping the people in the community that really need our help," said Davis. "We clothe roughly 7 to 800 children a year."
Clothe-a-child is a program where children are nominated by teachers to receive new clothing. Each article of clothing is purchased by the Noon Optimist Club.
"I see the excitement of the children. The eyes, they are so happy. They get a new coat. It really makes a big difference, and to me that is probably one of the most important things," Davis said.
An important thing to have a group of men like these guys, Santa would be proud and so are we at News 10 that they are are making a difference in the lives of children.
