TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - A local mom speaks out after her only son died in a car crash. It happened Sunday night on Seabury St. in Terre Haute.
"It's terrible when your boy gets killed," Cindy Searing, victim's mom said.
Russell Searing, 21, died Sunday night after the car he was in crashed into a tree on Seabury St.
"My boy was tore up. You know, you couldn't hold him," she said.
At first, his mom says she was in disbelief.
"Are you sure? Are you sure it's my boy? You know, I have to make sure it's my boy," she added.
A memorial was setup by some of RJ's close friends. On Tuesday, RJ's mom and dad dropped off a single red rose to honor their son's life.
"I'm sad I can't see my son anymore, you know. I am, but I know he's in a better place," Searing said.
At first, RJ's mom says she was angry at the driver of the car, Shane Mikolajczyk, 34, but now she says that's pointless.
"I can't get angry. It's nobody's fault. It just happened," she said.
Witnesses told police they heard the car speeding down the road before it crashed. RJ's mom has a message for other drivers.
"If you're out racing cars, it's not all fun and glory. This is the end of it sometimes," Searing said.
Another life cut drastically short and another family that will be grieving for years to come.
"I will never stop loving him. He will always be my boy," Searing said.
Visitation and the funeral will be Wed. from 11am - 1pm at Frist Funeral Home in Clinton, Ind. A graveside memorial will follow at Roselawn Cemetery.
At last check, the driver of the car was in critical condition at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, Ind.
