TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - The deadline for Indiana's budget is less than a week away. With the state legislature in a special session, lawmakers still disagree over the future of state funding.
Governor Mitch Daniels paid a visit to the Wabash Valley on Wednesday to promote his state budget.
"In the next few days, we will decide between solvency and bankruptcy. We will decide between low taxes and high taxes," Daniels said.
"I would like them to know that Indiana is unique right now in being in the black with a saving account and not having to raise taxes or slashed education," Daniels said. "I would like them to know that if we make the right decision it will stay that way."
Daniels warned that if his plan doesn't go through, Indiana could look like Michigan and California financially in a year.
Lawmakers have until June 30 to pass a new state budget before the current one expires.
The Indiana Senate passed a resolution to keep the state spending at the current rate, even if a new budget is not approved.
