TERRE HAUTE, Ind (WTHI) - This summer has been abnormally below average in temperatures.

Duke Energy officials estimated that 43 percent of most energy bills are for air conditioning and heat. Since temperatures are cooler, customers are less likely to kick on the air conditioning, saving themselves money.

When it does get warmer, Duke Energy officials suggest keeping your house around 76 to 78 degrees and even higher when your not at home.

"If you close the drapes, during the day when you have the solar heat you will use your air conditioning less. Open the windows up during the day and turn your air conditioning off. We have had some great days here to really take advantage of some cool temperatures," Duke Energy spokesperson Rick Burger said.
