TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - Authorities called off the search for a seven-year-old boy after more than two hours.
A teenage girl reported she saw a boy fall into Otter Creek in North Terre Haute, but after searching the area, police believed the reported was unfounded.
"They've reexamined all the facts involved in the initial report. The evidence, or lack of evidence thereof, and we've decided based on the results of those interviews and examinations, that we're not going to pursue this operation any further this evening," Indiana conservation officer Kent Hutchins said.
At about 2:45 p.m. Friday, crews were called to the creek. Lifeline helicopters, boats and officers on foot searched the area.
Authorities were urging parents to make sure they knew where their children where, in order to find out if a child was missing.
Dispatchers issued a code red, which sent a call out to about 60,000 homes and businesses. This call went out twice to alert residents of the emergency.
