TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - Thirteen men and women were killed at the Fort Hood Army Base in Texas. The suspect is army psychiatrist, Nidal Hasan.

The incident happened in Texas but it hits home for all soldiers who want to healthy, psychologically, and stay safe.

First Sgt. Michael Taylor is in the Marine Reserves in Terre Haute. He knows that service men and women can have underlying issues. He has post traumatic stress disorder.

Taylor said the only way to know what your soldiers are thinking is by communicating with them everyday.

"You talk to each one of your marines and you speak to them, and you have other leaders that are below myself that will. Sergeants, and staff sergeants, and gunnies that will talk to these marines. They will see signs of what's going on," said Taylor.

Marines also have local doctors as well as post-deployment screening.

The investigation into the case at Fort Hood continues.
