TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - Terre Haute Convention and Visitors Bureau Executive Director David Patterson said Colts Camp has a $1.6 million effect on the Wabash Valley.
Crunching the numbers, he said 20,000 visitors attend the camp. Roughly half, or 10,000, are out-of-town visitors who spend on average $100. The other half is from the Wabash Valley and spend on average $60.
"The positives that come to camp are two-fold," said Patterson. "One, it's the direct impact of visitors leaving behind money. Secondly, it's the visibility that it gives the campus community as well as Terre Haute."
Last summer, 22.308 fans attended training camp. That's the second-most, only exceeded by the 27,340 that visited in 2007, the year after the Colts won the Super Bowl.
