SULLIVAN, Ind. (WTHI) - When there's such a close election like the Sullivan mayoral
caucus, the state mandates that officials follow certain
guidelines.
Friday, News 10 reported that candidate names were drawn from
a fish bowl. That was not correct.
"The Sullivan County Democrats followed every rule set by the
state of Indiana. The state of Indiana instructed us step by step
how to follow these procedures, and one of them was to use a
container, there was never any mention of a fishbowl," Lynn
Hamilton, the Democratic chair said.
Hamilton said the legal council for the party did use a metal
bucket after the second round of voting.
This was to settle a tie between two candidates, eliminating
one from the race.
The winner was then named by Hamilton's deciding vote after four precinct committeemen split their votes.
