WEST TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - Saint Mother Theodore Guerin is the founder of the Sisters of Providence of Saint Mary of the Woods in West Terre Haute. The festival is in her memory.
Mother Theodore arrived here from France in the late 19th century. Her mission was to increase education for women in Indiana. She called Indiana "My Indiana" because she did not want to leave. She was canonized in 2006.
The festival is a celebration of her life. It will include many activities.
"Of course, there will be times for prayer, there will be times for gathering, there will be times for walking in a kind of procession or parade if you want to call it. Um, there are times for quiet prayer by themselves if they want to do that. And of course, always meals for people to share and come to know one another," said Sister Barbara Doherty, the festival organizer.
