PARKE COUNTY, Ind. (WTHI) - Soldiers returning from serving overseas got a warm welcome back to the Valley as a community celebrated our nation's heroes. It was part of Parke County's Soldier Appreciation Day.
Events began Saturday with a parade to honor all the area soldiers who've served in Iraq and abroad. The day also focused on families who have lost loved ones in the service.
News 10 spoke with one soldier who just got home days after the birth of his daughter.
"It's just great to have everything back in America," Sergeant Steven Russell said. "You appreciate the little things in life and it's just really good to be home."
Soldiers from all four military branches and the National Guard were honored during the Appreciation Day.
