OAKTOWN, Ind. (WTHI) - A severe crash in southern Indiana brought calls for changes at a crash prone intersection.
Late Thursday, three children from Michigan were badly injured in a two-vehicle accident on U.S. 41 at the Freelandville Rd. intersection in Oaktown.
The accident is the latest one at the intersection that some call one of the most dangerous in Knox County.
"There are some years in the time we're down here in the summer that we'll see five, six, seven accidents," Lindsay Owens of Oaktown said.
Police said the intersection is one of the busiest in the county in terms of crashes.
"Oaktown seems to be the leader in the number of crashes," Knox County Sherrif Mike Morris said.
The four lanes of traffic moving up and down U.S. 41 rarely drop below the speed limit of 60 miles per hour at this busy intersection.
Area residents are hoping that with a coal mine opening nearby state highway officials will consider looking at the safety of the crossing.
