TERRE HAUTE, Ind (WTHI) - On Tuesday, over 1,000 votes were cast in Marshall, Ill. A winner was announced, but the race may not be over.
Marshall's incumbent mayor Ken Smith won by a six-vote margin. There are still eight absentee votes out there.
In order to count in this election, the absentee ballots must be post marked the day before the election and returned within 14 days after the election.
Once received and counted, those ballots could change the outcome of the race.
The Clark County clerk said most likely that will not be the case.
"Now the chances of that are very slim, usually they do not all come back. Most of the ones that have come back have come back. These have been out there for quite a while, one of them for a month," said Clark County Clerk Bill Downey.
