LAWRENCE COUNTY, Ind. (WTHI) - A Red Cross chapter will get some financial relief from the floods of 2008.
Red Cross officials said the flood of 2008 was one of the worst the agency ever had to deal with. Aid to families hit by flood in Lawrence County alone hit almost $62,000.
Now, the Lawrence County Illinois Disaster Assistance Program has begun helping the Red Cross recover from the flood by using a grant to reimburse the agency.
"It's been very exciting to receive it and we're so thankful that they have given us that funding. It's going to help replenish some of the funds that we lost and insure that we'll be there for future victims it that ever occurs," Sheryl Ring-Laakman with the Red Cross said.
Red Cross, Southeastern Illinois Hope and the city of Sumner shared in the round of reimbursements that totaled $85,000.
