CLINTON, Ind. (WTHI) - During last year's flood, much of Clinton, Ind. was under about four feet of water. Even now, some residents are still picking up the pieces.
At the time of the June flood, Feather Creek was full of limbs, which blocked it up when the rain started rushing down. For the past 30 years, Feather Creek has not been fully repaired.
Dozens of nearby homes had to be gutted after Feather Creek backed up.
Without any federal or local money, Clinton residents like Chuck Hendrix spend their days clearing out the creek. Hendrix has spent his own money on white rock to prevent erosion on the creek walls. He said he does this for the love of the town and the people living there.
"They deserve to be able to sleep at night without having to worry about getting up and see if the water is going to flood them out. It is a real terror to have to wake up and worry about moving your family out," Hendrix said.
Clinton Mayor Art Lindsay said they will continue to prevent future flooding with or without the help of outside agencies.
