BICKNELL, Ind. (WTHI) - A construction accident left much of a southern Indiana community without water on Tuesday

A water main poured out its contents onto the streets of Bicknell. The 12-inch line that supplies a large part of town was broken during a construction accident.

Officials said a construction crew was working on a line under Alexander St. at the intersection of State Road 67, when they cut the main.

Local officials are asking for the public's patience while they try to restore water service.

"It's just a freak accident. Something nobody planned on. I'm sure these people didn't plan on doing this. It just happened so we'll just have to make due with what we got," Bicknell Mayor Jon Flickinger said.

There is no word yet on when officials hope to have water service restored in Bicknell.

Officials said when the water does come back on a boil order will be in effect until further notice.
