TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - Terre Haute police are suiting up with some new equipment.

The force received 24 new bullet proof vests Thursday. The department gets new vests about every five years.

The new vests are streamlined and less bulky than the older vests, to make their jobs easier and safer.

Each vest cost about two-thousand dollars and the vests will go to the force's Special Response Team.

"These guys go in high risk situations and they need to have the best protection they can have and that's what we're trying to do," John Plasse of the Terre Haute Police said.

The Vigo County prosecutor's office paid for half of the vests, the rest were paid for with grants.
