WASHINGTON (AP) - The mother of a Massachusetts teenager says students on a school trip to the U.S. Holocaust Museum heard several gunshots before they were evacuated from the building.

Sandy Perkins says her daughter, Abigail, called her shortly after the shooting.

Abigail told her mother that some of her friends were very shaken, but all were otherwise fine.

Richard Warren, director of finance and administration for the Danvers, Mass., Public Schools, said the students from Holten Richmond Middle School visiting the museum were not near enough to see the shooting. He said after the incident, the students went on to the next stop in their trip, George Washington's Mount Vernon home in Virginia.

Authorities say at least two people were shot at the museum when a man walked in with a rifle.
