NJ compounding pharmacy extends closure in recall

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) — A New Jersey compounding pharmacy that issued a national recall of all of its drugs has agreed to remain closed two more weeks.

The New Jersey pharmacy board says Tinton Falls-based Med Prep Consulting Inc. continues to investigate the cause of contamination found in bags of magnesium sulfate that it formulated.

The drug is given intravenously to control seizures and premature labor in pregnant women.

Med Prep had said mold was found in solution dispensed to a Connecticut hospital. No related illnesses have been reported.

The company initially agreed to halt operations until at least March 22. It will now remain closed at least until April 5.

New Jersey officials say the closure was voluntary and does not represent a disciplinary action.
