TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - Each month, WTHI and Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 157 honor a person or group who is making a difference in the Wabash Valley.

One local Girl Scout Troop donates their time to brighten the lives of others, from the elderly in nursing homes to our soldiers serving overseas.

Whether it's collecting Toys for Tots or fixing holiday food baskets for the needy, Girl Scout Troop 150 is a role model for us all.

Last year, this troop raised enough money to ship 18,000 boxes of Girl Scout Cookies to Hoosier soldiers serving in the Middle East.

"We asked people when they bought cookies if they wanted to make a donation so we can buy more boxes and send them over to the soldiers," Girl Scout Sydney Seprodi said.

They also send care packages overseas, something one Terre Haute soldier said means so much to soldiers so far from home.

"When I was deployed before, they wrote letters to me, they sent Girl Scout cookies. It's really touching, and it makes us, or me anyway personally, feel like I'm doing the right thing by protecting them back here," Chief John Plasse said.

Troop leader Gretchen Gallion nominated her troop for the award, saying the girls always put others first.
