CARLISLE, Ind. (WTHI) - An officer at the Wabash Valley Correctional Facility collapsed and later died of an apparent heart attack while working with an inmate Sunday.
Timothy Betts, 51, of Jasonville had been helping escort an “unruly offender” to segregation Sunday when he collapsed, prison officials announced Monday.
Medical staff began CPR and used a defibrillator before an ambulance arrived to take Betts to an area hospital, according to a prison press release.
Betts had served at the prison since 1997, officials said. Funeral arrangements for Officer Betts are pending.
An autopsy for Officer Betts is scheduled for Monday afternoon.
