TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - Some folks are raising awareness by walking 835 miles.

The group started their Walk to Washington in St. Louis, Missouri on August 14.

They are walking to Washington D.C. in an effort to raise awareness for depression and other mental illnesses.

They average about 20 miles a day.

They are stopping at different rallies in cities along their path.

On Tuesday they made a stop in Terre Haute.

"I'm trying to bring awareness to the disease and encourage people that if they suffer from depression, reach out to a local community mental health organization like Hamilton Center because there are so many resources available for those that are hurting," said Steve Curran, director of this event.

They plan to arrive in D.C. on October 7, which is National Depression Screening Day.
