BRAZIL, Ind. (WTHI) - Organizers of the funeral for a Brazil, Ind. soldier who died during the Korean War are asking for volunteers to help prepare for the memorial.
On Tuesday, the remains of Army Cpl. Robert Archer were brought back to Brazil, more than 60 years after Cpl. Archer reportedly died as a Prisoner of War. Cpl. Archer’s remains were identified through comparisons with blood samples from family members.
Visitation for Cpl. Archer is scheduled for 12 to 8 p.m. Friday at French Funeral Home on National Avenue in Brazil. His funeral is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with burial to follow.
Organizers are also planning to line the funeral route with large American flags, all with the help of Larry Eckhart, a volunteer from Little York, Illinois who is also known as “the Flagman.”
Those wishing to help place flags are asked to meet at French Funeral Home in Brazil at 1 p.m. Friday.
