VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WTHI) - A special caucus has led to a new surveyor in Vigo County. A special committee was looking to replace Mike Sheehan who recently died while serving in that position.
Tuesday night, the committee voted in Tim Sheehan, Mike's brother. He was officially sworn in by a judge after the vote.
"He'd (Mike Sheehan) been in the surveyor's office for 30 years and it's my goal to continue the quality work that he put in to that," Tim Sheehan said. He'll finish out his brother's term.
Caucus officials had the task of calling the special election. It's something they say they never wanted to have to do, but they felt the right decision was made in the selection.
"Obviously, if Mike was here, he obviously would be very happy about that situation. Obviously, his brothers have been very supportive of him as well as the Democratic party," Joe Etling, chair of the Vigo County Democratic Party said.
Tim Sheehan beat out John Walters in the special caucus. He'll serve out the remainder of Mike Sheehan's term as Vigo County Surveyor.
