USDA offers rain barrels for sale

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) -

The USDA’s Vigo County Soil and Water Conservation District is selling rain barrels and compost tumblers.

Rain barrels collect rainwater from downspouts and store that water for later use. Compost tumblers are 55 gallon barrels that can store lawn and kitchen waste and can be rotated to speed up the decomposition of that waste so that it can be used as compost.

The rain barrels cost $65 and come in black, blue, terra cotta and gray. The tumblers cost $120 and come in black.

To place an order, you can call the Vigo County USDA office at (812) 232-0193 ext. 3. Those orders are due by April 26 and will be delivered in early May, organizers said.

Orders can also be placed at St. Mary-of-the-Woods White Violet Center Earth Day celebration April 20 from 11 to 3. They can also be placed at the Herb Fair at Fairbanks Park on May 11.
