Update on Terre Haute street projects

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - Progress on two major Terre Haute street projects continues as Labor Day weekend begins.

On Wabash Avenue, crews have finished digging out the middle lane of the street as part of an effort to fix a rough stretch. Those crews have also paved one stretch of that middle lane between 13 ^th and 19 ^th Streets and have laid rock between 19 ^th and about 22 ^nd Streets, city officials said.

Brad Utz, Director of Inspection, said work on Wabash Avenue should finish in about 3 weeks and has been moving rapidly.

“The weather’s been pretty dry up to this point, and we’re moving faster than we thought we would,” Utz said.

Meanwhile, workers on Terre Haute’s Margaret Avenue project are now adding concrete sidewalks, and planners say the project should finish this fall.

“Once we get the chunk that’s on the other side of the drive approach to Southland Plaza off of 7 ^th Street, we’ll have a little bit of that section of 7 ^th Street to rebuild, dig up and re-pave,” Utz said. “Once that’s done, we can put surface on everything and we’ll be wrapping it up as well.”
