TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - City planners make strides in a potential new home for Terre Haute Police Department.
Last month, the Department of Redevelepment approved financing a new headquarters for the worn out building.
Mayor Bennett said the city is currently approving the potential for a bond.
The next step will include officials coming up with a needs analysis.
A consultant has interviewed all police department heads and various staff to learn what the space needs to offer.
Then, the project goes to the design phase.
Officers will play a key role here.
"There are a lot of deficiencies with this building and so we want to make sure that we we build something, it's going to last us for the next 100 plus years. We want it to be, meet the needs of the department so that's the process and it'll take a little time to go through that," Terre Haute Mayor Duke Bennett said.
Designing will begin either January or February of next year.
Groundbreaking is expected to start spring of 2014.
