UPDATE: Another dead from Sunday I-70 crash

PUTNAMVILLE, Ind. (WTHI) - Another person has died from injuries sustained from a wreck that killed one person on I-70 in the Putnamville area Sunday morning.

Putnamville Sheriff’s Deputies, Cloverdale Fire Department and Operation Life Ambulance Service responded to a dispatch call of a bad wreck on I-70 just west of the 42 Mile-Marker.

Upon arrival, Deputies determined that two vehicles were involved in the crash: a 2004 Mazda that was lying on its side, and a 2002 Monte Carlo that was badly damaged and stopped against a guard rail.

The investigation revealed that the Mazda, driven by Michael J. Sullivan, 42, of Franklin, Ind. had been traveling westbound when, for unknown reasons, he veered off the road, through the median and into the eastbound lanes. 

Sullivan’s vehicle was then struck by the Monte Carlo, driven by Willie T. Simmons, 82, with his son as a passenger Keith Simmons, 61, both from Sullivan, Ind., causing the Mazda to flip onto its side and the Monte Carlo to strike a guardrail.

Sullivan was pronounced dead at the scene by Putnam County Coroner Thomas Miller.

Willie and Keith were entrapped in their vehicle and had to be cut out, and transported to Methodist Hospital for lower leg and hip injuries.

Putnam County Sheriff’s Deputy L. Adam Hull was the investigating officer.

Sunday afternoon, the Marion County Coroner’s Office advised Deputy Hull that Willie T. Simmons had died at Methodist Hospital as a result of his injuries.
