TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - The Exchange Club of Terre Haute honored fallen Terre Haute Police Officer Brent Long and Officer Scott Marshall Tuesday.
Officer Long lost his life on July 11th, serving a warrant.
We now know, Officer Scott Marshall was the first to respond to the shooting.
He came face-to-face with the armed suspect.
Tuesday, both Long and Marshall were honored as Police Officers of the Year.
"What Scott did was heroic, to enter the face of gunfire and respond the way he did. He definitely saved other injuries and the possibilities of other lives,” Terre Haute Police Chief John Plasse said.
Officer Long was a six and a half year veteran of the department. His wife accepted the award.
Officer Marshall has been with the department for three years.
