SULLIVAN, Ind. (WTHI) - An elderly woman is dead after a pickup struck her while she was on her scooter.

Indiana State and Sullivan Police said a GMC pickup, traveling East bound on Beech Street in downtown Sullivan, struck an elderly woman on a motorized wheelchair.

Sullivan Police said Evelyn Norfleet, 71, was crossing the intersection on North Court and Beech streets, when the GNC pickup, driven by Robert Foutch, 73, hit and dragged the motorized wheelchair several feet before stopping.

Norfleet was taken to the Sullivan County Community Hospital; however, she was later pronounced dead.

Police issued a ticket for Failure to Yield to a Pedestrian. The investigation is ongoing and there is a possibility of more charges to be issued.

News 10 will have more information as it becomes available.
