CASS COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) - A train derailment has called Cass County crews to the scene and will close down State Road 25 for hours Monday.
Crews working on the accident say State Road 25 was closed down just after 9 Monday morning after a non-passenger train derailed just south of the U.S. 24 interchange.
The call came in to the Cass County Sheriff's Office at about 9 a.m. that a train and car had collided. When crews arrived, they found a northbound Norfolk Southern train had derailed and hit a semi.
The semi driver's hand was cut, but that was the only injury reported.
Norfolk Southern officials say the rail got bowed out in the derailment, putting enormous pressure on the rail. Officials plan on cutting the rail to clean up the scene, which could take a while.
State Road 25 will be closed for roughly 5 hours for this process.
