CLINTON, Ind. (WTHI) - This week is Fire Prevention Awareness Week!
The Clinton County Fire Department said to keep a close eye on your heaters as the days get colder.
They said to make sure the electrical connections on your heaters are in good condition.
Get someone to sweep your chimney before use to help prevent fire.
And they said to double check your space heaters to make sure they are 3 to 4 feet away from anything.
“It’s important if you’re using a space heater, try to keep animals and small children away from it, because they can get burned from it easily, but it can also cause a fire,” said J. Stromm of the Clinton Fire Department.
Stromm recommends checking smoke detectors once a month and changing the batteries twice a year.
