TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - Three Wabash Valley funeral homes have closed their doors, according to a spokesperson for the company that owns the funeral homes.
Maddox-Ryan Funeral Home in Terre Haute, Maddox-Fox Funeral Home in Riley, Ind., and Maddox-McHugh Funeral Home in Shelburn, Ind. all closed last week according to officials with their parent company, Service Corporation International of Houston, Texas.
Company officials said Maddox-Wood Funeral Home on Terre Haute’s north side will remain open, and they said documents and accounts from the other three facilities will be transferred to Maddox-Wood.
A company spokesperson said a changing economy is responsible for the closures.
“After a review of our properties, a strategic business decision was made to close Maddox-McHugh, Maddox-Fox and Maddox-Ryan Funeral Homes in response to a changing economic climate,” the spokesperson said by telephone Tuesday.
Company officials say they still plan to honor funeral arrangements from the funeral homes which have closed, and they have encouraged any clients who have questions about arrangements to call (812) 462-1010.
