THPD orders new vehicles

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - You may be in for a surprise if you're a speeder who slows down after they recognize a police car.
     
The Terre Haute Police Department is moving away from the Ford Crowne Victoria, and going with new Dodge Chargers.
     
The station just ordered 21 new Chargers that'll be put to use in the field.
     
The cars replaced vehicles from 1998, 1999, and 2001.
     
The new Chargers provide a much needed upgrade, making the force in better shape.

"This is probably the safest this fleet has been since I've been on the job for 27 years," said Police Chief John Plasse,  "I have great confidence that our officers are driving in safe, sound cars."
     
Another benefit of the new cars is an increase in fuel economy, which Chief Plasse says will save tax payers money.
     
The cars are on a four year lease.
