TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - People looking for help with winter heating bills are on the rise.
Monday, Western Indiana Community Action Agency (WICAA) opened its doors to those who are in need of assistance, paying their heating bills.
Even though the agencies doors don't open till 8:00 a.m., more than 40 people were in line as of Tuesday morning.
The problem is the Energy Assistance Program can only accept 25 people in the morning and 15 in the afternoon.
If a person waiting in line for assistance doesn’t make the deadline, there aren't many other options.
Andre Livingston, a Terre Haute homeowner in need of heating assistance said, "You go home and you worry about the next day. It may get disconnect that day and get shut off and you do without until you find the help that you need or until someone helps you."
If a homeowner needs help paying their heating or electric bill, the agencies says people need to bring a social security card, proof of income for 12-months and a current heating bill.
