VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WTHI) - A road along the Wabash River will soon be vacated by the county.

There was a petition for the county to close Robertson Road down so the levee can be pushed back.

The levee is showing signs of deterioration and this is a preventative step.

Closing the road now so the levee can be repaired is more cost effective than doing it later if the river were to take the road out.

Officials say only a half mile of the road will be closed and it won't affect too many residents.

"We recommended to the county that this be closed so that we can move forward with out construction we've got contractors lined up to get in here and get this stuff moved." Fred Wilson, of the Greenfield Bayou Levee group says.

Construction is expected to begin around August first and wrap up by mid September.
