TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - People in Terre Haute may have to pay an extra fee for trash removal next year.
Mayor Duke Bennett proposed the measure Monday night at a city council meeting.
He wants people to pay a $9.25 fee to help balance the city's general fund.
Mayor Bennett believes without the fee, the city will face budget cuts and worker layoffs.
"So, right now, we’re just kind of going through that exercise, how do we fund the budget for 2013 so we don’t have a deficit at the end of the year,” said Mayor Bennett.
The trash collection fee is just one of several ideas proposed to city council.
