Terre Haute Airport Director Dennis Wiss said Wednesday night, the board decided to put eight planes up for sale on eBay after deciding not to accept two previous bids they felt were too low.

The planes up for sale are five Cesna 152's, a Decathlon and two Piper Arrows.

The airport authority owns or has loans on 17 planes that are used for the flight school.

But with only 65 students and around $350,000 in total fees a year, the board had to find a way to make up the lost revenue.

"Theoretically, the revenue that we derive from the flight school, offsets those payments. Unfortunately, the enrollment in flight school isn't what it needs to maintain 17 aircraft," said Wiss.

Wiss said the planes will be on eBay in the next day or two.

There will be a minimum bid for each plane and the auction will last until May 25th.

If a person places the minimum bid online, the board will have to sell the plane.

If not, the board may relook at the previous bids at their next board meeting on May 26th.
