TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - Even though its nine months away, planning is in full swing for Super Bowl 2012 in Indianapolis.

With people traveling from all over to see the big game, the Indianapolis International Airport is looking for support to deal with extra planes.

The Terre Haute International Airport is one of 17 airports involved in the Super Bowl Aviation subcommittee.

These airports either have a 50-mile flight radius or an hour and a half drive time from Indianapolis.

Surrounding airports are being ranked in terms of the equipment it has, especially de-icing capabilities since the game takes place in February, and you never know what the weather might be.

"So in terms of the people coming into the Super Bowl, it's certainly not a guarantee that they can get out if the weather turns bad, but the chances of someone getting out, in or out, are better here than they would be at say some of the smaller airports that simply don't have that type of equipment," said Dennis Wiss, the director of the Terre Haute International Airport.

Besides de-icing equipment, the Terre Haute Airport also has its own control tower which is another selling point.

While the airport said it hopes to make some money from this venture, its main goal is to work with the local chamber and visitor's bureau to help showcase the city of Terre Haute.

The Super Bowl committee will soon post a list of all the airports online, so individual pilots can choose what airport they'd like to fly into for the big game.
