Sycamore fans still behind their team

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - The Indiana State University (ISU) Sycamores took a tough loss Saturday afternoon. But there's still some fans left behind who think they're top notch.

It's the start of spring break and the usual crowd is low at Ballyhoo Tavern. But there were still a few diehard fans staring at the screens.

We caught them right before the game.

“I'm pretty pumped up. Big game today. Gotta get a win. Win or go home time..
We beat them before. We beat them pretty handily. We got a good shot. We'll gotta play our best. It's an up and down team,” said Nick Kerr, fan and employee.

“I'm really excited. Hopefully, we beat Creighton for the championship round..
We already beat them once here. Can't wait to beat them again,” said David Vaughn, fan and employee.

ISU spring break started friday night.

But employees still thought it odd there weren't more fans, considering they're usually pretty packed.

“It gets pretty rowdy in here for games a lot of times. I'm surprised there's not too many people in here right now,” said Kerr.

“It gets pretty crazy here. Especially in the kitchen during home games. We'll make halftime pizzas for the ISU games, but on a weekend, whenever a lot of alumni are in town or it's not spring break season, we always get a pretty big turnout here in the bar. I was pretty surprised there's no one here today, but it is spring break,” said Vaughn.

ISU spring break means fans may have traveled to St. Louis to see their beloved team in person.

But the bally can't wait for them to return.

“Big bucks. We make a lot of pizzas. It's usually a good atmosphere. A little down today, spring breakers,” said Kerr.

“(More money for you during those times?) Yes, for sure,” said Vaughn.

Even though the Sycamores couldn't pull off a win, their true fans are still behind them.

Creighton beat ISU 64-43.
