DUGGER, Ind. (WTHI) - A town rallies behind a town marshal, hoping to save his job.

At a recent Dugger Town Board Meeting, the board tried to fire Dave Heaton from that position, but eventually tabled the matter.

Thursday, the board met directly with Heaton in a private session.

A good sized crowd came out in support. They were members of the community, friends, and family. None of them, including Heaton, had been given a reason why Heaton's job was in Jeopardy.

At the end of the night no final decision was made, and Heaton retained his job. However, his future remains uncertain.

News 10 asked the board when a final decision would be made. They said they did not know for sure.

Meanwhile Heaton said he deeply values his position as Town Marshal.

"That's part of our job is to help people, also enforce the law and protect people, but I enjoy helping people as I can," Heaton said.
