Sullivan receives grant to raze school

SULLIVAN, Ind. (WTHI) - The city of Sullivan is rejoicing after receiving a grant that will help them demolish an old school building.
     
Sullivan Central Elementary School has been around for more than a century. However, it's been vacant for 12 years. In that time, it's turned into an eyesore, and a hazard.

Thanks to a federal grant worth $500 thousand, the school  will be demolished, and  revived as another place of service yet to be determined.

Sullivan's mayor, Clint Lamb said this project could be the spark that the city needs to revitalize it's outlook.

"Every beginning comes from some other beginning's end, and while you hate to see a property go down like that, the possibilities, a chance to rekindle a city's spirit. I think it's going to be something special."

The school's gymnasium, will be spared from demolition. Officials hope to use it as a part of the site's future plans.
