TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - Some economists suggest that unemployment benefits actually keep the jobless out of a job for longer.
According to a Journal of Public Economics article, every week a jobless person gets unemployment benefits, increases the length of their unemployment by 1 to 2 days.
However, that data is based on a steady economic period where the amount of jobs was equal to the number of unemployed.
Right now, there are close to 5 jobless folks for every job and many need some source of income to support themselves.
