TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - Dozens of people gathered tonight in hopes of helping those a world away.
The Sisters of Providence is hosting a Taize prayer once a month for the entire year.
Tuesday night's theme was "Lack of Potable Water in the World."
The events are tied to the "Year of the River," part of Terre Haute's celebration of the Wabash River.
The events consist of prayer, music and a time of silence to reflect.
"Tonight we really felt we gave to the Wabash Valley an opportunity to really celebrate the Year of the River in a unique way and in a way most people probably haven't thought about," said Sister Paula Damiano.
The themes and dates for future Taize prayers are:
February 19th - Thirst
March 12th - Spring Rains: Climate Change
April 9th - Waters of Baptism
May 14th - Water Pollution
June 11th - Flowing River
July 9th - Wasted Water
August 13th - Drought
September 10th - Joy of the River
October 8th - St. Mother Theodore Guerin & the Wabash
November 12th - Wbashiki and the Native Peoples
December 10th - Healing Water
