WASHINGTON, IND. (WTHI) - A wild weekend of weather in southern Indiana resulted in one home and several farm buildings being destroyed.

Daviess County authorities say a severe thunderstorm early Monday morning did a lot of damage in western and northern parts of the county.

The storm produced no injuries, but one man says the only reason he survived was that God was looking out for him.

Twisted metal filled a field south of Daviess County Road 550 North.

The debris path led back to a poultry operation where a house and 3 barns were destroyed.

Delbert Williams says the storm hit with little warning.

"I felt a little bit of vibration, but it was high winds I thought," said Williams. "Then I heard a noise and the next thing I know the house is on me."

The storm that struck there threw metal for miles across the area and authorities say they believe the wind gusts were at least 70 miles per hour.

Officials say they do not believe the damage was the result of a tornado.

"All indications are it was straight line winds," said Daviess County Emergency Management Agency Director Paul Goss, "but that is a determination the National Weather Service will have to make."

The storm damage stretched out into the northern portions of the county as well.

The Co-op east of Elnora had a wall blown out, and a large metal building to the rear of the property was flattened.

It was all part of a wild weather weekend that saw the weather swing from winter to spring and back to winter in a matter of hours.

"We had a quarter inch layer of ice, messed with that all weekend and then we had a spring storm," said Daviess County Sheriff Jerry Harbstreit.

The storm came periously close to producing a serious injury, but instead just left a lot of mess to clean up.

Officials say there were chickens in the barns and they were all destroyed.
