VINCENNES, IND. (WTHI) - A Wabash Valley community rolls out a new project designed to help people with transportation troubles look for jobs.
Knox County's public transportation agency, Van Go, has begun running what it calls its route of opportunity to help people get to the local Work One Office.
The new route not only takes people to a spot to get started in the search for work, but also it comes at the right price.
The Van Go public transportation system in Vincennes is growing and its looking for more ways to help people get to where they want to go.
For many folks that destination may be a job, so Director Nola Davis says its time to add a new route of opportunity.
"We're going to begin a new route in Vincennes and hopefully we're going to be able to get people connected with the Work One Office to aid in their search for employment," said Davis.
The plan is pretty simple.
Get people who are looking for work and take them to Work One, and while you're at it..don't charge them for it.
"All they need to do is get on at the bus stop," said Davis. "Head over to the Work One Office and the Work One Office will pay the Van Go Fee."
The connection between the public transportation system and the Employment office is one that makes sense here and local officials say they are excited about the program.
"If it helps hundreds of people or 10's of people find jobs and get into the workforce that's what we're looking for here in Knox County," said Marc McNeece with the Knox County Chamber of Commerce.
"It's going to be a great partnership," added Davis. "It's going to get people out to work."
And all they have to do to take the first step is get in the van and go.
Those routes run 3 times each Tuesday and Friday afternoon with stops at Jamestown Square and Twin Maples Apartments, Second and Main Streets and the Work One Office.
